Dip Bar Placement: Your Shoulder Blades Decide More Than Hand Width

Most dip bar setup guides hand you a width. Some say 21 inches. Others say 24. Then they tell you to measure your shoulders and line the bars up. That skips the important part. Your shoulder blades, not your hand spacing, decide whether a dip feels clean or pinches.

Two lifters with the same chest size can have different shoulder architecture. A 40-inch chest tells you nothing about the distance between the joints. Height and Torso Lean Change the Movement

  2. Press to the top and check wrists over elbows, shoulder blades down, chest open.
  3. Lower to about 90 degrees of elbow bend and watch the elbows and blades.
